About
Positive, purpose-led training for gundog breeds
Turn your dog’s natural instincts into focus, self-control and reliable training.
Class Start at 9.30am on 25th April 2026
Many popular pet breeds such as Labradors, Cocker Spaniels, Springer Spaniels and Retrievers were originally bred to work as gundogs. These dogs naturally love chasing, retrieving, carrying objects and hunting with their nose. When those instincts don’t have a suitable outlet, they often show up as problems like poor recall, over-excitement, pulling on the lead or constantly chasing things.
This course is designed specifically for pet gundog breeds, helping you channel those natural instincts into structured training games that improve focus, calmness and teamwork with your dog.
Across the programme you’ll learn practical gundog-inspired exercises including retrieve training, engagement games, steadiness work and recall training. These activities give your dog a productive outlet for their natural drive while strengthening your relationship and improving everyday behaviour.
Training takes place in a very small group of just three dogs, allowing plenty of individual coaching and guidance throughout the course.
You’ll also receive access to the Dog Smart Beginners Gundog online training materials, so you can continue practising the exercises at home between sessions and get the most from your training.
